Burnt Forest, Yellowstone

$2,800.00

Size: 40 x 30 inches

Acrylic paint on canvas. In 2009 my wife and I visited Yellowstone with some friends who live close by in Bozeman, Montana. While driving we saw lot of areas of the park that had been burnt but for some reason at this one point I told the driver to pull over so I could photograph the forest across the road. Maybe it was the light or just the phase of regrowth I saw with the hills and mountains off in the distance behind the trees. Something tickled my eye and luckily I have good friends and they stopped and waited while I photographed the old and new forest in transition. Years later I came across the photographs and decided to make a painting from them. The visual complexity of all the trunks and branches crisscrossing at different depths which is partially why I made the photographs seemed a little intimidating at first but after I started and relaxed about it I found it just took time, patience and attention. I also love the way the sky came out in this painting!
